TECOM-SMIP CERTIFIED ATHLETIC TRAINERS

The U.S. Marine Corps Training and Education Command (TECOM) requires Certified Athletic Trainers and Strength and Conditioning Specialists to support its Sports Medicine Injury Program (SMIP). Since 2003, SMIP has helped reduce musculoskeletal injuries and improve recovery times during training. By using evidence-based training and recovery methods, the program aims to enhance physical training (PT), reduce injuries, and provide effective treatment when injuries occur. Human performance includes integrated, performance based strength and conditioning programs, rehabilitative and pre-habilitative programs that will accelerate the return to duty of those encumbered by performance related injuries.

PSI plays a key role in delivering these services to Operational Forces (OPFOR) Units and select Entry-Level Training (ELT) schools. Certified Athletic Trainers will handle documentation, injury prevention, physical training program design, and injury evaluation and treatment, while Strength and Conditioning Specialists will support injury mitigation and rehabilitation activities, conduct performance assessments, design training programs, and manage documentation and administration. This collaboration ensures Marines are better prepared for their missions while minimizing downtime from injuries.
